Over the past twenty-plus years, S. George Alfonso has provided his unique brand of “Concierge Counsel” to clientele throughout the U.S., as well as internationally. His fields of focus include complex commercial litigation, commercial contract drafting and negotiations, political lobbying and corporate consulting, international arbitration and appellate representation.

Career Highlights

Mr. Alfonso has provided First Chair representation to U.S. clients in litigation and arbitration in multiple states, as well as First Chair representation in International arbitration through the International Chamber of Commerce (“ICC”), based in Paris, France. He has appeared before the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals for oral argument in D.C., Inc. vs. The State of Missouri (09-3847). In addition to international arbitration, Mr. Alfonso has provided First Chair representation in arbitration conducted under the “NFL/NFLPA Collective Bargaining Agreement” (“NFL CBA”), including 5th Circuit representation regarding the NFL CBA.

Testifying Counsel and Expert Witness on U.S. Law and in International Litigation

Mr. Alfonso has been retained as testifying counsel before the Federal Trade Commission as well as an expert witness regarding U.S. law and The Hague Treaty in international litigation:

    • Testified on behalf of Client before the U.S. Trade Committee Sec. 301 Tariffs;
    • U.S. corporate compliance and business structure issues in UK litigation
    • International expert and witness regarding U.S. and international treaty issues

Leadership

George Alfonso served two terms as Chair of the Dallas Bar Association’s International Law Section (2013 – 2014), and currently serves as Chair Emeritus. He has represented two of the more than forty defendants in Taylor et. al. vs. Acxiom Corporation et. al.(08-41083), and was selected by a leading national law firm, which chaired the “Joint Defense Group”, to be one of only twelve attorneys to form the “Appellate Steering Committee” (“APS”). The APS successfully oversaw the Appellees’ 5thCircuit response and prevailed completely after oral argument before the 5thCircuit. Mr. Alfonso speaks French and is also a member of the German-American Chamber of Commerce and the AEA International Lawyers Network.      

Credentials 

Mr. Alfonso graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas (“SMU”) with a B.S. in Political Science. While attending SMU, he studied overseas at the Institut de Touraine in Tours, France where he obtained a degree in language. He received his Juris Doctor (JD) from Pepperdine School of Law, located in Malibu, California. Mr. Alfonso is an avid reader of military history and a member of ASCAP.

Speaking Engagements

George Alfonso has spoken at both regional and international conferences on the subjects of international arbitration, including the need for well-drafted dispute resolution clauses in international agreements, the arbitration process through the International Chamber of Commerce (“ICC”), and the potential to obtain default judgments in ICC arbitration.  He has also spoken at several conferences regarding the European Union’s GDPR (“General Data Protection Regulation”) and NAFTA.
